Selecting a Storage Space and a Self-Storage Facility
Self-storage is a convenient, safe and inexpensive way to store your belongings. Ask for help in choosing a size that fits your storage needs. An efficiently packed small space will cost less than a larger space. However, if you frequently use the space, a large, well-organized space may be more convenient. Not all storage facilities offer the same amenities. We encourage you to stop in and visit our facility before you rent elsewhere. We are here to serve you. We appreciate our customers and will do whatever we can to have 100 percent customer satisfaction.
Storage Space Rental Agreement
For your protection, we provide a written agreement. Read it thoroughly and ask questions. All rentals are month-to-month with a one-month minimum. Payments are due the first of every month. It's important we have your current address. We give everyone a five-day grace period to either pay for or vacate the storage unit. Payments after the fifth of the month will be subject to late charges. Please give us a 10-day written notice and sweep out your unit. If you change your address or phone number, be sure to notify us in writing. For your convenience, we have a change-of-address form available in the office.
Secure Your Unit
You must place a lock on your unit to secure the access to it. Any units not secured will be locked by us until you can obtain a lock for yourself.
Prohibited Storage
Common sense and state laws determine what may be stored. You alone control access to your unit. Therefore, you should never store live animals, perishables, liquids and fuels, toxic materials, or other items that need a controlled environment. Gasoline inside an engine is allowed. However, it is a good idea to drain lawn mowers, weed eaters and such to avoid any spills while moving. Never store items that will attract mice, such as birdseed, lawn seed or food.
Insure Your Goods
The items you place in self-storage are the sole responsibility of you, their owner. Goods are not insured by us. If you do not have coverage through your home owners' or renters' policy, we have a brochure available in the office for you to obtain coverage. We are not agents for insurance companies and do not receive compensation for selling you insurance – you deal directly with the insurance company. We recommend that you insure your personal belongings.
Storage Tips
Determine the Packing Accessories You Need
Boxes and locks are available in the office. Wood pallets and wood blocks may also be available.
Fill Containers to Capacity
Partially full or bulging cartons may tip or collapse. Heavy items such as books and tools should be packed in smaller boxes so they are easy to lift. Protect your fragile goods with packing material (bubble pack or newsprint) and place them near the top of your storage space.
Put Your Most Valuable Possessions in Hardest-to-Reach Places
Record all serial numbers and keep them where you are living. If you have a video recorder or camera, take pictures of what you have stored.
Label Boxes
Take home a list of the labeled boxes for easy reference when you need to locate something.
Pack the Storage Space Carefully
Leave air space around the perimeter to aid ventilation. Place a pallet or pieces of wood under boxes or furniture legs. Do not lean items against the wall. If you need frequent access to your stored items, leave a walkway to the rear of your space for easy access. Use all the space available, including height, and place frequently used items near the door.
